Penile Curvature or Peyronie’s Disease

Posted on Thursday 16 November 2006

Penile curvature is a potentially serious condition affecting around 3% of men. Peyronie’s Disease, as it is more correctly known, normally first appears between the ages of 45 and 60, though young men of from 18 years old can be affected.

The condition is cause by calcified or hardened tissue in the penis which, tough not apparent when flaccid, becomes very apparent during an erection. The penis cannot expand in the hardened ridge so that it bends when the blood flows causes the rest of the erectile tissue to harden. It can’t kill you, but can ruin your sex life.

The thick band of hard tissue in penile curvature can make sexual intercourse extremely painful, and so destroy the victim’s sex life, and a narrowing of the penis can give it an hour-glass appearance and in the extreme, the curvature itself can make penetration mechanically impossible.

Although the exact cause is unknown, there have been several theories proposed. Some believe it due to accidental injury of the penis during vigorous sexual activity when the penis was injured against the partner’s pelvic bone, while circulation problems and genetics have also bee proposed. It is likely that there is more than one cause, and there are more than one forms of the condition. True Peyronie’s Disease is distinct from the form of penile curvature which does not have the hard tissue ridge.

Milder forms of the condition sometimes clear by themselves, sometimes after many years. However, true Peyronie’s Disease frequently requires surgical treatment. There are also possible drug treatments involving steroids, vitamin complexes or calcium channel blockers, but these are mainly palliative and do not produce permanent cures.

Any abnormality of your penis should be investigated, though any curvature could be serious and be progressively degenerative. You must seek medical advice immediately since the penile curvature could be a simple form which will correct itself with time, or the more serious Peyronie’s disease which may require surgery.

The SizeGenetics system could be of help to sufferers of penile curvature. It is a program based on traction and exercise designed mainly for penile enlargement, but can also be used to control penile curvature and other deviations due the effect that traction has on the cells of the penis.

Traction, or stretching, promotes elasticity in the penis cells which should reduce the curvature. The stretching effect on the penis should then cause new cells to grow within the penile tissue and strengthen it. This is how it works to enlarge small penises and the same theoretical principles also apply to helping to straighten out penile curvature.
